January 2022: Change of the use of Google maps
26 Jan 2022 [ULi]
In December we saw an increased number of page views on the WABDaB. The increase was so high that Google started billing us for the use of Google maps. We are pleased about the increased interest in the WABDaB of course, but it is still a not-for-profit effort that we finance out of our own pockets.
So to reduce the amount of usage on the Google maps, we have now restricted them to users who are logged in. This means:
-
The map on the start page is now a static image for anonymous users.
-
You need to log in to see:
-
Species distribution map (for example Cattle Egret)
-
The observation map on the page of each individual observation (for example of this Gabar Goshawk)
If you want to have access to these maps and still haven’t created a WABDaB account, we strongly suggest you register.
Sorry for any inconvenience,
The WABDaB team
